Bitcoin

Bitcoin is the world's first peer-to-peer decentralised digital currency, created in 2009 by an unknown person or group of persons known as Satoshi Nakamoto. It's also called a cryptocurrency for its use of cryptography to secure the network and make transactions pseudonymous. With Bitcoin, you don’t need to go through a bank, clearinghouse, or third party to use money.
